Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda left himself plenty of leeway in the deal he struck with two major opposition parties in exchange for their cooperation on legislation to raise the consumption tax rate.
Noda agrees to hold Lower House poll 'before long'
Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda agreed on Aug. 8 with leaders of the Liberal Democratic Party and New Komeito to dissolve the Lower House and hold an election "before long" after the Diet passed bills on the consumption tax increase.
